What is a PAC?
IRS Code defines three important tax advantaged entities which play very important roles in American society. Under Sections 501 and 527 they are:
501(c)(3) - Public
Charity tax deductible contribution, tax free operation
501(c)(4) - Social Welfare Organization taxable contribution, tax free
operation
527 - Political Action Committee taxable contribution, tax free operation
Of the three, PACs have the greatest latitude for political engagement. Such as:
lobby, advocate ballot measures, endorse candidates
educate the public, educate candidates, sponsor debates
mail voter guides, rate candidates
make campaign contributions, run advertisements, and more
